What do I need for buying a Travelcard?

Travelcards (prepaid travel tickets) are sold only electronically on to an accepted smart card. You can use any smart card issued by a transport operator integrated in the IDS BK or an ISIC student card issued by high schools and universities and also you can use a Bratislava city card for Bratislava residents.

How can I get a smart card?

You can get a smart card from all integrated transport operators in the system. Each transport operator has slightly different conditions and prices for issuing a smart card. You can find more information in the section smart cards.

How to choose the right Travelcard?

Before buying the Travelcard choose from the scheme of zones those, through which you want to travel regularly. The price will be calculated according to the number and type of zones selected. Zones through which your connection just passes through without stopping are taken into account too. Every zone is taken in account only once, even if you travel through it more times during one journey. The zones are marked with a number. It is good to be able to name the zones you want to have prepaid on the Travelcard to the ticket seller. The zone 100 is always sold together with the zone 101. The zone 101 can be sold only together with another zone.

How to travel outside the prepaid zones?

When travelling outside the area for which you bought the Travelcard you can combine your Travelcard with another ticket according to the IDS BK fare system or, in some cases, with a separate fare system of the transport operator.

When travelling by train, find out which station is the last one within the zones your Travelcard is valid in. Before you start your journey buy a single ticket for the missing zones or an ordinary train ticket valid from the last station your Travelcard is valid for.

If you travel by a Slovak Lines regional bus it is necessary to ask for a ticket valid until the bus stop where you want to get off. In the case you are planning to change during the journey ask for a ticket valid until you get to you final destination. For example when travelling from the city of Bratislava to the centre of the city of Pezinok ask immediately after entering the bus for a ticket to Pezinok-námestie (Pezinok-square) and place your smart card with the Travelcard on the card reader. The system automatically evaluates its validity. If you have also an eWallet on the smart card with enough credid, then the fare for the remaining zones is paid from that. If you haven´t got an e Wallet, or you haven´t got enough credit on it, you can pay the remaining fare in cash. It is necessary to tell the driver your destination stop also on the return journey.

Where is it possible to buy it?

You can buy the Travelcard at all selling points of all integrated transport operators, in multifunctional ticket machines and through the internet.
